Lee Roy Selmon blends the merits of football scholarship in his family and the benefits of community service. First, his familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. Another reason for his football career was that he is the youngest of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. All three brothers were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. For the three seasons that Roy was on the field, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, he was awarded his third scholarship and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon obtained a degree as an educator. Lee Roy's fourth time of service was ten-hours per week in volunteer work during college. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. Additionally, he started an entrepreneurial career. His first job was as an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. In the past, he worked in the past for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him in 1982 as being among the top 10 young men from the United States. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He captained his college team in the year 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as the assistant director of sports. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
