In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track during the course of the space of six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music has not only brought interest back to the genre, but as well to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish and the year 2016 featured four. During the height of Despacito's popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish tracks made the top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito (2017), a number of bilingual remixes Despacito (2017) famous artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna together with Maluma in Medellin (2019). By 2020 a few reggaeton performers were lamenting the genre's direction toward the mainstream but a new generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro was determined to continue the evolution of reggaeton. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music, as well as different genres.
